Urban Arts Academy invests in South Minneapolis youth through culturally-inclusive, Art-Infused education. We have an innovative model of youth engagement that provides 20 high school students with 8 months of Art-Infused leadership training and engages those student leaders in the real-time design of their own program model, including planning for sustainability and growth.
This program was created in 2015 through funding from Youthprise, which allowed Urban Arts Academy to engage high school youth in designing a new program for themselves and future student leaders featuring leadership development training and planning.
The pilot the students designed included three elements:
Neighborhood High School Youth will:
Engage in Art-Infused leadership programming with a variety of Teaching Artists that build skills and confidence in several art mediums.
Explore opportunities to use art to generate revenue to support the program, including meeting with successful entrepreneurs and an experienced UAA Board member.
The students meet twice a month for 3-4 hours on the weekends during the school year.

Students are paid $25 for each session they attend.
