Intern Program

At Urban Arts Academy we provide a unique environment for interns to be able to put their academic knowledge into practice. We work with high schools, colleges, and universities as well as individuals outside of the academic field to foster opportunities to further one’s knowledge in Arts Education, Non-Profit Administration, Community Development and Youth Engagement. We value the insight and creativity of our interns, and want to offer professional positions that suit their goals, their sponsoring institution and our own mission.

Interns can do their internships for credits, as we partner with their education institution. [Note: our internships are unpaid]

We have 70-85 interns a year that provide a crucial support of about 7,000 hours a year. Our partnerships with education institutions include but are not limited to:

  • MCAD

  • Macalester College

  • University of Minnesota

  • MCTC

  • St. Kate’s

  • Hamline University

  • St. Thomas University

  • High School Interns through the City of Minneapolis programs of Step -Up & Achieve Minneapolis.

Internships are typically 145 hours and can be completed over the course of your academic semester/term, or during the summer.

These individuals work closely with all of our staff and Community Artists.

I always believe children have their right to explore and create arts in diverse forms. Children’s arts shouldn’t be judged simply based on how “pretty” or “professional” their artworks look like. Urban Arts has done so well to provide appropriate resources to inspire children and give them space for creativity. I really think my values are represented and shared here at UAA.
